Shelly Porges is a global entrepreneurship advocate and a strategy advisor to a number of political, for-profit and non-profit organizations. Recently, Shelly completed her tenure as head of the Global Entrepreneurship Program, at the US Department of State. She is currently the National Finance Co-Chair of the Ready for Hilary PAC, President of the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards North American Jury, and serves on a number of growth company boards.
As Senior Advisor of the State Dept Global Entrepreneurship Program, Shelly launched GEP 2.0, increasing the Program’s reach from a handful of countries to almost 150 locations, and institutionalizing entrepreneurship as a key part of Secretary Clinton’s economic diplomacy initiative. Prior to GEP, Shelly launched the State Department’s Global Women’s Business Initiative, working to create multi-lateral relationships in support of women’s entrepreneurship worldwide.
Before the State Dept, Shelly had a distinguished career in the both the corporate and entrepreneurial sectors and was a recognized marketing and strategy expert. Her work at American Express culminated in her role as executive head of marketing for American Express Canada; she was then chief retail marketing officer at Bank of America during their historic turnaround. Shelly subsequently held executive positions in a number of financial service startups, including a venture sold to Wachovia Bank; Third Age Media, the leading internet portal for baby boomers; and Scudder Weisel Capital LLLC, a joint venture of Thomas Weisel Partners investment bank and Zurich Scudder investment, a leading asset manager. She was also Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Global Payments Experts LLC.
Shelly holds both a BS and MPS degrees from Cornell University, and lives in Georgetown.
