Program Description: Each summer, Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies hosts Summer Programs for High School Students. The various programs and courses provide opportunities for talented and motivated high school students to learn more about a subject area of their interest. The dynamic programs and courses enable students to learn from Georgetown faculty and Washington decision-makers and experts, gain hands-on learning experience through classroom activities, and participate in unique educational off-site visits. The School of Continuing Studies is seeking to hire an Assistant Academic Directors for its Institute program(s): http://scs.georgetown.edu/departments/21/summer-programs-for-high-school-students. Each Institute is a non-credit academic program that provides the students with exposure to a particular field. The curriculum is rigorous; students are engaged in academic exercises from Monday-Friday of the program from 8:30AM to 9:00PM.
Duties & Responsibilities: The Assistant Academic Director supports high school students, Institute Assistants, Instructors and the Academic Director. The Assistant Academic Director is someone who can change gears quickly and troubleshoot problems independently in order to implement and oversee the day-to-day logistics for the duration of the one week Institute program. This position requires a professional who is reliable, responsible, flexible and able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment. This position reports directly to the Academic Director and Central Operations Program Coordinator. Duties include, but are not limited to: provide high level administrative and programmatic support to the Academic Director; and execute special projects as assigned by program leadership; attend daily briefing meetings with Institute Assistants and Academic Director; supervise Institute Assistants; review and approve timesheet for Institute Assistants; learn about and understand the program to better support the student experience; lead the review and implementation of day to day program logistics; oversee the maintenance of daily and event attendance records; assertively communicate and disseminate schedules to students; attend and oversee all program activities including lectures, guest speakers, off-site visits; ensure students are aware of and engaged in daily activities; assign staff to discussion sessions after designated program activities and events; create safe and supportive academic environments for the students; build community and belonging amongst the students and staff; ensure staff are establishing appropriate boundaries with students in compliance with the protection of minors policy; report unsafe, inappropriate, and concerning behavior; assist during program check-in and check-out; enforce University policies, procedures, and regulations to students and staff; notify program leadership of any student emergencies; participate in a debrief meeting with Program Leadership after students leave; other duties as assigned Schedule: The Assistant Academic Director is scheduled to work 8:30AM-9:

Schedule: The Assistant Academic Director is scheduled to work 8:30AM-9:00PM Monday-Friday. Overtime is required. The nature of this position requires the Assistant Academic Director to be precluded from having simultaneous obligations during the designated time commitment. The Assistant Academic Director is required to be present and supervise students and staff beginning the first Sunday of the program through the closing ceremony on the following Saturday. Additional Information: All Assistant Academic Directors must commit to 15 to 20 hours for planning and preparation in advance of their designated program. Assistant Academic Directors are also required to attend separate training sessions, and successfully complete a background check prior to the start of the summer programs.

Compensation: $14.00 per hour; possibility for on-campus housing if needed; meals will not be provided.

Internship Requirements:
Current undergraduate student, Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Undergraduate or high school teaching experience; Experience working with high school students; Supervisory and/or leadership experience required; Proficiency in MS Office, Google Docs and online learning platforms; Knowledge of Georgetown University helpful


Hiring Period: Fall, Spring, Summer

Location: Georgetown University

Approximate Hours per Week: Full, 40

Compensation: $14.00 per hour; possibility for on-campus housing if needed; meals will not be provided.
