NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: 2017 GEORGETOWN SUMMER LAUNCH PROGRAM

2017 Program Dates: May 30 – July 25, 2017

The StartupHoyas Summer Launch Program is a startup incubator program designed specifically for current Georgetown students and recent graduates who want to launch a new venture. Many of our most successful student-led ventures have participated in the StartupHoyas Summer Launch Program. Several have gone on to gain admission to other regional and national accelerators, or receive other offers of investment and support.

What you get

Participants in the Summer Launch program receive:

  • Dedicated support from Georgetown faculty, mentors, experienced entrepreneurs, and peers
  • Workspace on Georgetown University’s main campus as well as access to 1776, a global incubator and co-working space in downtown DC
  • A stipend of $2500 per team
  • Introductions to local investors and entrepreneurs
  • Invitations to exclusive networking events, and opportunities to present their ideas to the DC entrepreneurship community.

Over a 9-week period, aspiring entrepreneurs work full-time to accelerate the development of their ideas, gain traction with customers, and build a case for investment with seed funders. Using “lean startup” principles, participants work on the components of their business model and collect the data to validate whether their idea has growth potential.

How it works

The program begins with a 2 day “bootcamp” on May 30 and 31 from 10am – 4pm, followed by a weekly Tuesday afternoon working session, from 2 – 5pm.  (The July 4th session will be rescheduled to Wednesday July 5th due to the holiday).  Participants must be available to all sessions, and a final showcase event on the evening of July 25.

How to apply

Students from all Georgetown degree programs are eligible to participate. To apply, complete this form (LINK) and  a copy of your executive summary. You will then be contacted to schedule an interview.

The application period opens February 28, 2017. Teams whose applications are received on or before March 20, will be notified of a decision no later than April 1.  Applications will continue to be accepted until the program is full, and teams will be notified of a decision on a rolling basis.

The incubator program is designed for very early stage ventures; companies do not have to be revenue-generating in order to apply, but should have a well-defined concept, including a revenue model.  Similarly, non-profits are permitted, but will be expected to have a proposed model for achieving financial sustainability.

Our entrepreneurs loved presenting to the sold-out crowd. 73 startup teams have now participated in the Summer Launch Program since it was established in 2011, including representatives from all of the Georgetown graduate and undergraduate programs.
